HFO Celebrates its 20th Anniversary Year

July 22, 2019

(PORTLAND, OR) – HFO is delighted to be celebrating two decades in business, providing commercial real estate services to owners of multifamily properties in Oregon and Washington.

Founded in 1999, HFO Investment Real Estate began as a unique brokerage firm. HFOs founders Greg Frick and Cody Hagerman created a rare atmosphere in which brokers shared listings as a team.

From a humble beginning with just four people working from a tiny office in NW Portland, the company soon relocated to another office in John’s Landing. In 2004, HFO moved to a new office at the Water Avenue Commerce Center near OMSI. In 2015 HFO purchased and remodeled their current office on SE 11th Avenue that serves as its headquarters where it employs 22.

Even as the company has experienced exponential growth, its core philosophy remains the same: specialization in, and a passion for multifamily real estate. And, by maintaining an extremely rare broker-to-staff ratio HFO’s brokers provide unparalleled service to clients.

“We offer the highest level of professional support in the region," says HFO partner Greg Frick. “We continually push forward, challenging ourselves to reach new levels of client satisfaction. We are a reliable resource for market research, industry news, and educational events.”

HFO has grown to become the largest apartment-only commercial real estate firm in the Pacific Northwest. Since 2006, HFO has represented the most significant number of multifamily buyers in the Portland/Vancouver metro area and is consistently named a Top Sales Firm by the industry data collector CoStar.

HFO’s growth is the result of its passion for helping clients succeed in apartment investing, says Frick. “Our specialization in multifamily has allowed us to understand the market on a street-by-street basis. Even small differences in location can mean a big difference in the performance of a multifamily asset. We have decades of experience and expertise at this granular level. As an example, many people don’t realize that Portland has 95 officially recognized neighborhoods and many more unofficial ones. Each of these areas has a different character, and we’re constantly improving and updating our familiarity as these areas grow and change.”

“We help our clients build their legacy – whether they are private capital investors looking to support future generations, or an investment firm providing stable returns for a trust or pension fund,” says Frick. “Either way, they come to us to be custom matched with the most sound real estate investment. Our growth tells us that we’re doing things right by our clients, and our tagline, ‘Build Your Legacy,’ reflects that. For twenty years, we’ve helped thousands of clients customize their real estate portfolio using our core principals: passion, collaboration, and specialization.”

Cody Hagerman, Greg Frick, Rob Marton, and Tyler Johnson are HFO’s partners, leading a team of seven additional brokers, and 11 staff members. Current staff includes a director of operations and employees with decades of combined experience in underwriting, research, transactions, and marketing.
