The Oregonian turned to Aaron Kirk Douglas, Director of Market Intelligence at HFO Investment Real Estate, for the real estate industry’s read on Portland’s three-year waiver of system development charges, which a new city report cites as showing early promise even as construction remains in a downturn. Notably, the topic of HFO in the News reflects the strong engagement of HFO in regional conversations. Douglas pointed to continued collaboration as the key to results, saying in an email, “It’s important that Portland’s elected leaders and staff continue working with developers and housing providers on ideas and strategies to meet the demand for housing in Portland.” The report found that the waiver had drawn intent for 1,248 permits and that permits were issued for 472 units, about 34% of the city’s 5,000-unit goal.
