Oregon Rent Assistance and Safety Top Oregon’s 2027 Multifamily Agenda | Apartment Owner Influence [9/3/26]

Oregon’s 2027 legislative session will shape the rules for rental housing providers across the state. On this episode of HFO’s Multifamily Marketwatch, HFO Partner Greg Frick talks with Zach Lindahl. Lindahl is the director of government affairs for Multifamily NW. They discuss how the 1,000-member association sets its legislative priorities. Lindahl explains the six policy buckets that guide the agenda. Next, he describes how a 30-to-40-member government affairs committee builds a two-year priority plan. In addition, he explains why some bills get fought while others get negotiated toward a more workable version. The top themes for 2027 are already clear. Those include fixing how rent assistance is administered and improving safety at rental communities. Finally, Lindahl also covers how owners and operators can get involved. For example, they can join the Government Affairs Committee, submit testimony, or contact lawmakers as constituents.
