Oregon Rent Assistance Delays: Court Backlogs and the Push to Fix Them [8/14/26]

Oregon’s emergency rent assistance program received about one-sixth of the funding requested. Renters often cannot access help until an eviction has been filed and a trial date is set. However, with court delays running four to six months in some counties, both residents and housing providers are left waiting with no answers. On this episode of HFO’s Multifamily Marketwatch, HFO Partner Greg Frick talks with Zach Lindahl, director of government affairs for Multifamily NW. They discuss why the current system works this way.

In addition, they talk about the new work group of legislators and stakeholders looking for a better process. Lindahl also explains the limited tools available when resident or staff safety is at risk. This includes the 24-hour notice and the right-to-cure loophole that lets repeat behavior reset.
