Portland’s Inclusionary Zoning Policies Causing Lull in Housing Development
The Daily Journal of Commerce reports that the drop off in permitting activity for housing in Portland is continuing almost a year after the implementation of inclusionary zoning laws. The projects submitted prior to inclusionary zoning are scheduled to go through the appeals process by June, but the Portland Design Commission says those hearings are slowing down, and there is a lack of new projects in the pipeline. Michael Great of Ankrom Moisan Architects says his firm is seeing more development in cities like Gresham and Beaverton, but in Portland most of the focus is on public infrastructure. Read more.
